Re: Which side imaging unit do you run?

So... I can score a Helix 9 with HD transducer for about $1400, perhaps less. This may be a little too big on the Reload, though. Anyone disagree? I disagree. I really really regret not getting a 9 over a 7 for my sounder choice. After seeing my mate with an Elite 9 on his kayak, a 9 is definitely ...

cheers
With the most recent Lowrance software update, most of the units which offer side-imaging can make use of just the total scan transducer.

Re: Which side imaging unit do you run?

I run a HDS 7 Gen 3. Its ok.

A mate of mine just bought an Elite 9 for his kayak. It's a better unit than the HDS if you're looking at Lowrance gear.

Don't really know what to add for pros and cons. They work. The newer model sounders have better resolution than the older model sounders.

For some reason I can't see the video (probably a QLD Gov computer thing). The still-shot looks amazing.

Re: Salty Reels

Its pretty easy to self service reels that don't require the use of special oil.

Worst case you forgo replacing the mag-seal oil on your reel and service yourself anyway.

If you're a kayak fisho, I can't see the point in buying a reel only to be used on boats.

You did better than me. I spent quite a few hours in that area over the weekend for only a few grassies. It was quite depressing actually.

Re: Reel damaged by salt water.

I spray mine with water from the hose after use (mist setting). Every 6 or so trips I strip them down completely and service them properly. I haven't had a bearing crap out on me or noticed any corrosion. Years ago I used to spray them with Inox after every trip. To be honest I haven't noticed a dif...

Re: Pine River Rehab

Quick question - I haven't fished the Pine for many years, do the trawlers still go through there? The last times I was there (at Deep Water Bend) over 13-15 years ago, they were trawling the river with nets down. It was a bit disconcerting seeing as the river is only 100m wide at some points there...

Re: Pine River Rehab

Cheers guys. Not going to lie, I was pretty excited to catch a fish again. Its been a while. Its been three years in a row where I've managed to get hurt in September and have the recovery process stretch into the new year. Next September, I may go into hibernation for a month. Don't wait to chase t...

Pine River Rehab

Hi all After 4 months on the sideline with 2 bulging discs and 2 compressed nerves (lower spine - L3 & L4) and thousands spent on GPs, Physio, consultations with a spinal surgeon and a new bed, I'm finally able to actually do something other than just walking around feeling sorry for myself. Managed...
