Re: WTB. Rudder kit. Ocean Kayak Prowler 13. Sydney

Hi Anthony, If you’re still looking you could have my 4.3 ultra with rudder kit and icebox. The skid plate had worn down and it has a small 2 mm hole on the tail and wear around the area. It leaked about one litre per hour when I took it out. You could choose whether to use my kayak or the rudder ki...

Re: Jervis bay yellowtail kingfish

It sounds weird to say I hope you find a smaller one next time, but that really is the case with kingfish and kayaks. Also 10 km is a massive paddle, if you’re fishing pt perpendicular launch at Murray’s beach or honeymoon bay they’re only 3-4 km, otherwise currarong is only a 2-3 km paddle to...

Re: Watch out for these little beasties

I've had a red circle about 6-7 cm diameter on my thigh for about 9 days now, it was swollen and itchy at first but is slowly fading. No idea what got me, was just sitting at work when I first noticed it. Good point about the spiders in the shed, tipped a red back out of my rarely used bait pump the...

Re: Need advise before buying

Hobie Oasis would be my suggestion for a 2 person Pedal kayak. If you need something cheaper to do the job a large ocean kayak prowler has a high weight capacity and large space for an esky in the back, but you could sit a kid in there instead. I recently took my 4.3 ultra for a paddle with my wife ...

Re: Big Tailor in Sept - Wallis Lake

Some good string pullers there arpie. Were you casting to fish you could see feeding (birds diving, surface splashes) or just prospecting likely areas? Trolling lures along drop offs is a good way to find a school.

Re: Anchoring offshore

I regularly anchor in 10 metres of water. I wouldn't advise anchoring in anything over a metre swell as your kayak is moved backwards with the wind, and then surfs forward down the swells (pulled by the anchor line). And in shallower water like 3-5 metres, no swell at all - don't want to be anywhere...

I think the only no fishing area round there is inside bushrangers bay at the front of the headland. https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/marine-protected-areas/aquatic-reserves/bushrangers-bay-aquatic-reserve Use your common sense though, if you see floats with divers flags or see bubbles streaming u...

Re: July Offshore Fishing Comp

Can anyone who was there give me an idea of the wind conditions Sunday morning? BOM Kiama observations suggest less than 15km/hr until about 11:30 and a reasonably strong NE sea breeze by midday. I'm just curious as I was fishing culburra and it was a moderate westerly until 10am, gusting to about 3...

Re: Traveling from the states

2) Does September suck for fishing? In Sydney the warm ocean currents don't arrive till November. Water temps in September will be about 16-17 degrees Celsius (don't panic that's not Fahrenheit with ice bergs floating past) so there'll be limited pelagic action (not many yellowtail kingfish for exam...

Re: Currarong info/advice

I'd join you for a paddle but i'm on call all weekend. There's three options for launching - either Abrahams bosom beach, near the general store (creek mouth) or use the boat ramp. I launch near the general store as it's close enough to the carpark so I can just carry my kayak 50 metres. All options...

That thing's as wide as it is long!! Must have been a few too many real prawns going past before your artificial one.

Re: jervis bay snapper 20lber

Very nice, would have had the drag singing!

Did you weigh him or just guessing 20lb?? My dad speared one 84 cm many years ago and it weighed 7kg (15lb). It's possible yours is just a fatter fish but such a big difference seems unusual.

Re: Fishing in the colder months

There should be some big trevally in the lower reaches of the estuaries over winter, and salmon too. Trolling lures or using strips of fish should get you into a few. Locally I’ve found the shoalhaven river extremely quiet for bream in winter and there’s a closed season on estuary perch too.

Congratulations on a fine catch. I have often thought if I hook one I hope it’s on a good day weather wise so getting towed out to sea won’t be a problem.

Re: Unusual Catch

I was surprised when I got one about half that size in 2016. They look cool but are very slimy. I’d like to know if they were hitching a ride on something bigger.
