Re: Sunset Session

That is awesome! I have never paddle boarded before, as I've never seen the point of it.. But fishing off it! .. well that's a different story .... awesome. And with fly gear! I would have been in the drink for sure! I think you've also just inspired me to go get a chest mount for my Garmin Virb XE...

Sunset Session

Got a quick fly session yesterday on the paddleboard (does that still count?). So stoked to be catching fish more consistently with the fly rod and with flys that I have tied. This one was a supposed to be a squid pattern which I sort of made up as I was tying it. https://vimeo.com/226823606/3b51eac...

Re: Snapper on the fly

Fly fishing from a paddle board and getting snapper, I'm impressed , great methods and capture Haha, thanks. I started out fishing from the paddle board last year. That was in winter though, when there was no wind. Any wind above 3 or 4kts and it's a rubbish way to fish. It is a really quick way to...

Snapper on the fly

Snuck out in the arvo last week to my secret snapper spot to have a cast with the fly rod. I've caught plenty of snapper in the same spot with plastics but I wanted to try and get one on the fly. I was on mum's stand up paddle board which I find easier to cast from because there is nothing to get th...

Re: New Sounder

I just got the Lowrance elite 5 ti which has side view on a 5 inch screen. I think that the 7 inch would be nice but the lowrance 5 inch screen is fine. It's a little hard to read when I have it split screen. A mount that brings it closer to my face so I'm not looking down all the time would be good...

Hey mate, I won't be able to make it out because of work but I'm still keen to hear how you went. Where abouts are you launching from?

Re: Fish Finder?

would I have been able to get back on the fish again? An old trick for doing a drift over same area. On small Coke bottle, wind fishing line around the bottles waist and at the line's end tie a snapper lead. When you get a hot spot throw it all overboard, the bottle will unwind as lead sinks, when ...

Fish Finder?

How much of a difference does a fish finder make to the kayak fishing experience? I've been meaning to get one for ages and after a big ol donut yesterday I think I have made my mind up to get one. I found what I think was a school of snapper in some deeper water along a discolouration line in the w...

Re: The Master Caster bags a 36cm bream! Mine busted me off

Nice work mate!

Shame about the one that got away. Great to see that you are catching fish on flies that you have tied. I'm yet to do that.

I'm taking a casting lesson this weekend so I'll have to get out on the water afterwards ands see if I can hook up on some fish.

Fly Casting Lessons Around Brisbane

So after picking up the fly rod late last year I have taught myself the basics of casting and I can usally get a cast of about 10 metres or so. But now I'm having trouble progressing and was looking to get some lessons to tidy up my technique/squish any bad haddits. Can anyone recommend someone in t...

Re: Working the fly

Well done on your first bream on fly! They can be tricky! VERY tricky - specially from the yak! What yak do you have? Nice Jewie, too! That one is still on my list from kayak. cheers Roberta Haha, yeah it's hard. You have to keep track of 3 or 4 things at once, positioning the kayak, focusing on ca...
