Re: New Reel, Different Tac

Beautiful...Don't go too heavy on the rod. Still want to have fun with Spotties and tuna.

Re: Time for a Hobie

Pretty exciting time getting a brand spanker...Like going from a runabout to a limousine and I am sure that you will feel really safe and secure on it.

Holiday Destination Help

Howdy. I'm hoping that you might be able to give me some ideas for a holiday next year. Of course, it should involve some fishing but not the total focus. Targets would be pelagics such as Wahoo, Mahi or Marlin. I'm not up to tossing lures at GT's. Vessels involved need not be fancy, just safe, not ...

Re: Sailing

I use a 32oz snapper sinker that I modify. This works fine to 40m, the deepest I have used it. I use 50lb braid. I down rig livies for snapper and cobia too. Got a snapper yesterday that took a wired bait. Yes, the winding is so much easier on the vertical plane and can do the rigger and a reel at t...

Re: Sailing

Yes Paul. Its mounted on a Scotty plate that is on a fabricated alloy plate screwed to the yak and I attached a piece of cutting board to the Alvey so that it slides in and out like the Scotty did. I find it much better as the winding plane suits me, the clutch is better and it retrieves more line p...

Sailing

GrantSail2.jpg G0094527.JPG G0094438.JPG G0094264.JPG I joined the Vic Yak crew today on their annual pilgrimage to SWR. Bait was scarce and decent fish even more so. I got one surface strike on a small yakka. Looking up, my line was in one direction and a madly jumping Sail 180deg away in the othe...

Re: 2018 Hobie Revo water under the seat query.

Its a 13. I'm thinking about 130kg which is a little over the recommended max. I like the idea of raising the venturi hole so keep your thoughts rolling in
Thanks

2018 Hobie Revo water under the seat query.

Howdy. I have the new craft with lounge seat. My first of this seating style. I am finding that the area under the seat is constantly full of water and it then runs forward over the hatch which obviously leaks a little in spite of lubing the seal etc. At the end of the day there is quite a bit of wa...

Re: South West Rocks advice

Afraid I don't know much about gear other than what I use. I would run a mono topshot of 30-40 m then 3m of fluro trace on top of the braid. This has more give if a billfish comes along. I use the triple surgeons for mono to trace a its quick and often needs changing on the water.

Re: South West Rocks advice

Not many people use lures as combined with the current, it can make it hard going. Regular big Rapala style jobs catch everything though. The Mackerel seem to have arrived and you would probably enjoy catching these. Wire is a necessity incl a 300ml trace off the front hook. I use 58lb. The Slimies ...

Re: Striking the Mother Load and other ramblings

The white box is a plastic cover that wraps over the sounder. This keeps the water and sunlight off the screen. On the back of the sounder there is also a alloy shield to keep the water off the connections. Both home made. I haven't done an article on my mods. All the offshore fishers I know have th...

image1.JPG Belongs to my wife. Years since used and Im sick of it in the garage. Minor ramp scrapes front and rear but probably only been on the water 20 times. Drive recently serviced.
