Re: Casting practice

I taught myself how to cast fly in the middle of the road out the front of our house at Sandagte. It was probably really tough on the flyline, but I never thought about that until now.

I like using the pool too. But not for casting, I regularly swim new lures in it to understand their actions. I also practice in it to see what different types of retrieves do to the lures.

But, chook fishing sounds like fun ..... at least when I let them out of their pen they can be productive instead of destroying my garden.

Cheers,

steven

Now 65 yrs old still doing it and with my first rod which was a Split Cane Luderick Rod I started at the ripe age of eight years old and still will practice.

I was working the racks recently for the first time from app 10 metres to 16 metres away over the water casting and was putting the light weight lure within a metre regularly-

it is like practicing your short game (golf) different ways - different lengths - and this was when I was not fishing at all - practice casting saves lures and time and has such fun when you can do it regularly - and when I was on an ABT special set up (front electric motor thingo boat) I was short by one metre where to put the lure and had not been fishing for years but I was still within one metre from app 15 metre cast...........nib nudge .. say no more.......

it is simple - lures have rules - put it where it matters :cool2:

and no matter what I am told - I am still convinced that Surface Lure Fishing for Bream is just a poor man's version of expensive (for me) FLY FISHING---------

Yep, was practising fairly regularly at our previous place using plugs, particularly with the baitcaster. Hav'nt been doing much practise lately but plan on rectifying that as it makes a real difference in technique & accuracy IMO.

Bart and Adrian
My son has hounded my for years to get out in my Outback and get back to Bream. His descriptions of topwater fishing has had many warnings like.....WHEN THEY HIT as you have the lure nearby and your not paying too much attention and whether it is a flathead or big bream no amount of preparation you are likely to rise up off that yak and land back on it with the loudest expletives you know. :mad1: :snic: :mad1:

it is now a quarter to 3 and no one in the place except dog and me - so I filled up the coffee so you aughta know ---
I just dreamed it -
woke me up -
scared the sh*t out of me and.................
that is coming at the end of September.......
when I learn to be patient.........Bream first then flathead and then BASS :cool2:
all when I am not ready for it :mad1:
slow..
stalk.....
then it will happen and I will fall off yak --

If you get a couple of hours free I've got a spare yak or two that you can borrow for a quick flick.

Cheers mate! Really appreciate the offer. I'll hit you up with a pm if I ever get some time off. :ll:

Yep Dad first taught me to practice my surf casting up the street as we lived in a very quiet street. After learning to use a baitcaster I try and practice as much as I can.Pop a bucket down the back and try to land the shots in the bucket.
brez wrote:i hate nothing more than getting snagged on a miscast only to go in to retrieve my lure and spook a good fish :ang:

Brez...when that happens to me I just lay that rod down and grab a second rod to work the snag over before I go in to retrieve the snagged lure.Saves ruining a good snag. :bye:

Cheers.
