New Members now being Activated!

Postby Leper » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:57 pm

Hi folks,

We have finally figured out how to activate new members which is fantastic!

However this is new ground for both Steve and I and so we will need all active members on the look out for any new members whose actions are a little suspect. If you see any activity that is not "kosher" please report it to us ASAP. We are vetting new members as best we can but we will obviously make mistakes while we learn how to do this consistently well.

Also we may be a little over- zealous and vet some new members and not activate their accounts. At this point we will not delete their registration but instead leave it in the system in case they return asking why their registration has not been approved. If this happens and you know them ask them to contact us through the Facebook page.

So please be patient as Steve and I learn the ropes and thankfully the site will now have some fresh faces flooding in as we work through the hundreds of activations since January 25th.

Cheers

Brad and Steve

Hundreds sounds good Brad. Good luck with the vetting, etc. I often refer people to the site, so perhaps some are new members in waiting, will have to wait and see. Cheers for the good work in sorting things out.

That's terrific - I saw that newbies were being activated 'in numbers' regularly over the last couple of weeks ...... well done!

being one of those new members, I appreciate your efforts. I am a Tassie fisho in the research phase of his next kayak which is pretty difficult given we have so few agencies here. Looking forward to getting back on the water when the weather warms up. The family love a feed of flatty and squid.

Just had a query through my YT re: new member activation. Has anyone been doing them lately? Poster requested to join weeks ago.

Hey guys,

I’ll be honest, there is a major issue at the moment and I have more or less given up! As you may know I don’t own the site or have any access to large parts of it! The phpbb forum needs updating and at the moment we are receiving 200+ spam registrations a day! I was registering everyone prior to this but now it is an impossible task!

The forum needs to be updated and I have contacted the website owner but have received no reply! Without the update and a little spring cleaning at the back end of the site I just don’t have the time to filter through all the junk to find a legit registration!

Regards

Brad

Do we need to donate $'s for a new server. if there is enough members it can cost peanuts for each member. Is there no way for the Admin/owners to pass on control of the site.

Can see the difficulties you are having, like some others feel some other action is needed to keep a strong forum, and finacial support would certainly be available if needed as mentioned already by some members

When visiting another forum which is using latest phpbb setup, it's easy to see how it addresses many issues mentioned in here on occasion [eg picture resizing]. so easy to see how it would benefit any administrator.

To get a result think it is time to seek another solution if hitting a brick wall at present ..... perhaps start KFDU-2.

Have seen an example of how well a transition could work if you went down this path after using up all other options.

In December 2004, Phil [the mariner] set up the original AKFF when kayak forums were a novelty, it took off and he found his current software was not up to the task, and realized a phpbb forum might be a better option to a growing forum.

Eight months after starting AKFF he posted the problem on the forum and asked what members thought about starting a fresh AKFF on the phpbb base ....member support was total ........ be aware I was not involved on the early forum but have read the old stuff as it was only a few pages..

However KFDU does have quite a few original AKFF members

In August 2005 Phil announced establishment of the new AKFF on phpbb and it kicked off, I joined as member 85 same year. the forum then grew updating the software and successful until it folded about 3 years ago for other reasons.

I feel sure if it was necessary to start a fresh forum to get secuirty there would be huge support from existing KFDU members if we were all to benefit.

Members having reregister on KFDU2 is no big deal and would give admin control, also by retaining membership on KFDU it gives access to all the forums history
