New Hobie Mirage on the horizon? COMPASS!

Looks like a cross between a PA & a smaller craft ...... a new 12 footer. I wonder when it will hit Australia? I like the look of it!

Assuming they may be trying to come out with cheaper fishing kayak. Interested to see pricing.

It looks a little dumbed down, but looks very streamlined in comparison to Outbacks and more so PA12's.
The lady at the 0:07/0:08 second mark almost looked like going into the drink when that fish struck!

Cheers,
PF

The price in the US is $2000 ...... so still AUS$2500+ here, I reckon.

Yes, that fish took her by surprise!! :beye:

When they come out - I'll go for a test drive ..... looks a little 'heavy' for me to hoof around tho

cheers

I just saw them. You just think you have the latest in Hobie yaks and they go make a new one. What does this have that the Revo 13 doesn't?? Seems to be a double up of their range. Now if they bought out a 10 foot Pa, that would get me interested!

Edit,After looking a bit more. I think the seat is a simlar style to the PA as is the hull after a close look the hull seems very PA ish at rear. I like the addition of the tracks on the side. It will be a winner for Hobie, no doubts

I find it interesting that they design and introduce the Mirage 180, and then go and introduce a new model that comes with forward only Mirage drive. :?:
Fresh is best, but I don't mind some salt every now and then!

For the fresh: Mailbu Sierra 10 & Koastal Pacer
For the Salt: Hobie Revo - 11

It would probably cost more as well. I think their goal was to put out something a bit cheaper and wider for those that wanted a PA bout it was just a touch out of their price range. It looks pretty good, but we'll see how it is on the water. I think it will do fine. Hobie has been around a lot longer than just kayaks, so I'm sure they did plenty rnd in regards to stability whether it be secondary or primary etc.

To me it looks very PAish with a Revo front end. I think it will do well as well.

I was speaking to a dealer (a Hobie dealer that is) today and he was saying that they should sell for about $2500.00 but might be more depending on how much those higher in the money chain add on prior to their arrival in shops.

His other information is that he expect them to arrive around November although he was hedging his bets pretty well.

I was actually talking to him about the quest 11s and mentioned how good it would be to have flush mounted track in those like the compass has. If only you could take all the good bits from all the yaks and tailor one to your own needs.

At 31 kts empty, it's still a fair chunk of plastic to car top picking up with side handles doing overhead lift, that is what I am assuming nativeman and Titfish is talking about. I know it would beyond my limit.

Nice pick up, didn't notice that myself. Would be interesting to see how difficult it will be to pick up in the flesh. In the market for a new estuary/lakes yak and not sure if I should just grab an Outback or wait to see how this one goes.

........No grab hamdles.............

There's a handle front & back - just the standard black ones on thick cord ...... No 8 on the picture diagram

I use and need the side handles to flip my Outback onto the gunnels when loading on my box trailer. I don't know how I could do it without them :?:

Just found this on the Hobie forum site

FYI - yes, the compass has 'molded-in' side grips on both sides, they are on the inside of the deck near the seat for the best balance point.
