STOLEN KAYAK - KingsKraft 11ft - FORSTER/TUNCURRY 18/3

#1 Post by katostrom » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:40 pm

Hi all
My kayak was stolen from roof rack of car at Big4 Caravan Park Tuncurry overnight Sunday 18/3.
Same Model as full picture complete with seat installed but without the pedal drive unit (that was locked in car).
Colour Beige as per fish photo.
Only visible distinguishing features are extra D rings added to base of swivel rod mounts plus two white plastic rod clips mounted on r/side.
Very few of these around so if you happen to see one on water in the area or for sale especially without pedal drive may well be mine.
Has been reported to police so if you see anything similar can be reported to Police Assistance Line 131444 or Crime Stoppers 1800333000 or contact myself.
Probably never see again however any assistance appreciated.
Thanks

That’s bad news. We were up there 2weeks ago and stayed at the caravan park just over the bridge in Forster and the blokes next to us had their camp done over early one morning. Apparently it’s not unusual.

Hope you get a good outcome.

Yeah I stayed at the Forster caravan park a few years ago. A lady camper up from us lost their bikes. I trust no one in a caravan park and lock every thing twice over with lockable cables.

Do these kayaks have serial numbers at all?

Timely reminder given that Easter is coming up and the CV parks will be full of folks with their expensive toys. Must admit I have been lax securing mine in the past.

Speaking of securing your kayak. What are those kanulocks like?

Are there better options?

Thanks for the comments.
Re serial numbers - had the same thought's myself, only purchased six mths ago so checked the original paperwork but couldn't find any reference so possibly not, may have been something on the yak itself but too late to check now :?: .
Just a thought re securing stuff may be good idea to use something alarmed, these guys must have carried bolt cutters as they cut through a thick steel cable lock when they took the push bikes from nearby caravan.
Newknees has a good setup with alarmed cables, purchased from a camping equip site "Australia Direct" gone and purchased same myself, bit late now but will be used in future :idiot:

Cheap insurance policy.
Slightly thicker & heavier than a standard strap due to stainless steel reinforcing cables.

Way back on a kayak camp a few of the group had the Kanulocks, one key from one of the guys opened the locks on the other two kanulocks they had on their kayaks. Don't know if they fixed that but back then we knew that they had few key lock combos .

Terry , sorry to hear this as you spoke so highly of the yak's ability in the racks and flats at Forster.

Hope you get it back and they catch the scumbag/s involved.

So sorry to hear this, Terry ...
I’ve added info to a few yak Facebook sites and also local selling sites and asking people to be vigilant.

Fingers crossed we will get it back

And don't forget to click on the 'show me how' to get the lower price!! Many eBay purchases have a decent discount if you do!!

Then, you only pay $38 instead of $48!! click on 'Show me how' and it will give you a code to enter when you purchase!

Anyone who thinks cable is difficult to cut needs to do some research on YouTube. However, Kanulocks would stop an opportunistic theft and add a layer of security that may deter a thief enough to make them look for an easier target. I use Kanulocks but rarely lock them (or have a need to lock them). I like that the cable reinforcing reduces strap wind noise as you travel.
