Fishing with Noel/Justforfun & on my own!!!

Postby arpie » Tue Feb 20, 2018 8:59 pm

Hi guys

Since early Jan - I've been tied up with various medical procedures & it isn't over yet. I start radiation in Port Macquarie next week for 4 weeks - but will take a fishing rod (and hopefully a kayak) so that I may even try for bass up Wauchope way whilst up there!!!

SO ... following my surgery in mid January (viewtopic.php?f=22&t=51195) I am now back on the water & whilst I was absolutely knackered after my most recent outing (bloody wind & tide was against me!) I am happy that I was back on the water! :gu:

Noel & I were keen to hit the water last week - my first outing since my surgery - and we chose to go to Pacific Palms to put in (and catch up with Brian Henderson - fly guru - who has also been thru melanoma surgery in recent weeks.) It was great to see him in good spirits, altho he had some savage surgery!

The week earlier - Rod & his wife Lorraine had visited from Muswellbrook & we also hit the water together!!

First fish landed wasn't impressive - to say the least!! Basically no bigger than the lure!! WAY Smaller, actually! LOL Baby Mullet!

Next wasn't much better either!! A stinky Pike!!

Next outing was with Noel
P2150037.jpg

I landed a nice little (emphasis on LITTLE) flattie on a deep diver CJ
P2150038.jpg

Then I landed a nice little bream on Umpa Popper! I'd missed heaps of hits!
P2150039.jpg

Then a nice whiting jumped on board ....
P2170041.jpg

I missed a couple of whopper hits - one was a BIG bream that I actually SAW take the lure - and when I brought it back - the entire rear treble was MISSING!! How the HELL did it get that off! It was a whopper bream!! :beye:

Heading up the Breck channel the next day on my own - I lucked onto a Wirra! LOL NEVER caught one of those on a lure before!!
P2170042.jpg

How good are the Umpas - even on catching Pike!?? If you want to catch jewies in Forster - you need LIVE PIKE!!
P2170044.jpg

Finally - a nice breambo jumped on board with the deep diving CJ!! :gu:
P2170045.jpg

Then a nice flattie jumped on board (that came home for dinner! )
P2170048.jpg

Sadly, with tourists still being VERY evident - this family then walked all along the sandy edge that I was fishing (and getting hits every 2nd cast!!) destroying it totally for me! :beye:
P2170051.jpg

Pretty full on with visitors!
P2170052.jpg

I finished off with another nice flattie (that also came home for dinner!!)

It was great to be back on the water again! :lek:

cheers

Thanks guys - I appreciate your support. I've been really lucky with my friends - both local, fishing & uke - they've been my 'therapy' over the last 6-8 weeks ..... and I couldn't have come this far without being a screaming wreck without them!

It's a tough 'gig' - having good buddies & Keeping BUSY with things you love doing, I reckon, is the way to treat this demon - so long as you are able to, physically.

..... Good to see you out and about..... Hope you are feeling good......

Shame you can't make it up for the weekend, Mark - you know where the fish are! :(

I headed out a couple of days later, on my own - Noel wasn't able to join me - so I went to the shallows at the top of the Breck - and cast a HEAP of top water - and the bream were REALLY ON TO TOPWATER!!!

A 'smallish' one jumped onto a topwater ....
P2180001.jpg

Then casting around a Damiki DTSCO shallow runner - I hooked up to a nice little flattie!!
P2180002.jpg

It may have been a topwater that landed this one - the lure fell out as I got it into the net ...but a nice breambo anyway!
P2180004.jpg

I was casting over a flooded oyster rack & I hooked onto an absolute HORSE!! It took line & the rod was really tested .... and then - it spat the hook!! :beye: BUGGER!!! It would have been a REALLY NICE BREAM!!! I reckon, mid 40s .... :idiot:

Back casting again, I had more hits & misses - one was a really solid hit off the flooded racks - but I tried to tempt it away from the racks for a better 'go' at it - but it didn't buy it! Opportunity missed! DUH! In a comp - you just have to roll with the hits - and try & "GET THEM' as they it!!!
P2180008.jpg

I missed SO MANY hits on this trip - if I'd hooked every hit - I'd have had a terrific bag!!! BUT .... I still really enjoyed my time on the water - tho I wasn't that fussed coming back against the wind & tide ... it was a hard slog.

Not having been out like that for a while - I was absolutely KNACKERED that night & slept REALLY well! :lek: So that was good

SO... looking forward to getting out with Noel again tomorrow morning to scare some bream!! Both on fly & spin!!

cheerio and thanks for the support

Roberta

Thanks guys - busy packing up to go to Port Macq tomorrow for my treatment starting on Wed. We will be taking all of Keith's Triathlon gear as he is hoping to qualify for the Tri World Champs in Qld later this year ...... then he reckons he'll quit!! (As if!!)

So I'll just take my uke gear up this week - and take some fishing gear back with me after the Fly Muster & ABT weekend here. It'll be good to catch up with a whole bunch of my fishing mates again who will be here for both events - sadly, some missing out on the Fly Muster because of the ABT event.

Then the week after is the KFDU event at Big 4 Tuncurry - I plan on being at that one too if i am up to it!

I've managed to get out a couple of times since this post ...... so will do a report SOON! :lek:

cheers
