Merimbula Pt 1 including Pirtek Challenge

#1 Post by Rory222 » Sun Mar 24, 2019 10:46 pm

G’day all

I’ve just returned from a week in Merimbula. Had a really good week which kicked off last Sunday with the Pirtek Fishing Challenge.

Word was the lower lake was firing best so headed that way straight up. With the high tide very early in the morning I didn’t get much of a shot at fishing the leases for the first few days so focused on fishing the channel on the runout tide. Using both soft plastics and my usual hardbodies I managed a few nice fish.

Submitted the tailor for the PFC and found out yesterday I got pipped for the mystery length by 4mm 😬. So close...!

Day 2 there was not a lot of fishing...

Day 3 was a bit better weather wise so off to the lower lake again. Got a quick play with GG in the leases before I hooked a nice fish for a few seconds and then got pinged on the oyster rubble... bye bye GG 🤬. Had to retie leader before casting again but next cast I snavelled a little bream.

Once too shallow in the leases I headed back out to the channel and landed some great fish including a thumping 40cm whiting and late in the day a 41cm bluenose bream. The 120mm bloodworm squidgy wriggler was the favorite!

A good but tiring day fighting the strong channel currents all day but was well rewarded.

Day 4 with the high tide now later in the morning I headed into the top lake leases. While a relatively quiet day I still managed 3 nice flatties and a Trevor trolling home in the channel - all on GG.

Wow!

Absolutely killing it!
Awesome bag of fish!

Spent my honeymoon down at Merimbula, but was before the yak fishing bug got me... such a beautiful spot!

Cheers,
PF

Thanks PF, Merimbula is a great spot but it did take me a number of visits before I really cracked the code. It can be bloody tough fishing at times. I’m learning you’ve just gotta keep your options open. Fortunately this trip was pretty good!
