Brisbane River mid winter fun

Postby Novice » Wed Jul 12, 2017 10:30 am

I had an arvo session down at my local yesterday. The weather was glorious.

Even better the fish wanted to play.

Left them biting on surface on the way home too.

Missed a few hits, dropped some others, got bricked, and also got smoked. All in all, a great avro.

Cheers,
Dave.

Go the flat shad. Did you have both sizes? They work well in the snags. Can't wait to chase some cod on them. Loving that pompador colour too. Have to get some of the new micro ones.

Yeah Wayne, I used both sizes, more fish came off the smaller ones.

Im interested in getting some micro pompadors aswell, $28? each and probably still have same crap trebles as the larger ones. :?:

WOW! Awesome fish!! That 50cm would have given you some fun! :gu:

Out of interest - is the season open again up there now or is it part a dam?

cheers

Qld fisheries changed the regs a couple of years ago. They acknowledged that the weir at mt Crosby is a permanent barrier to native fish passage, (it has a fishway but it is useless for fish like bass) therefore closed season only applies to tidal waters below that barrier on the Brisbane. That leaves 60kms of river between kholo and bigW available for fishers to get their bass on over the winter.

Thanks for the post and the clarification on closed waters. Indeed the closure now only applies to tidal waters. If only we could get decent fish passage in our Brisbane River.
