50cms for a bass is certainly a milestone to remember Roberta, congrats on your capture.

Well Roberta, you have smashed it out of the park and then some.

Had a couple of donuts on the Hacking, and don't want to start a bakery.

You have inspired me to get back to the bass on the Upper Nepean for a few dusk sessions, with Daylight Savings and all. And certainly endorse your topwater first strategy regardless of time of day. Just too much fun.

And don't tell anyone about the exact location. Keep the Bass Code!

Congrats again.

That is a cracking bass arpie for your first for the season! As for the lack of fight I have caught some unhappy fish health wise that were big and fought like wet socks and caught small fish that had me working my axx off to keep them out of the timber. Might have to call you the queen of bass if you manage another of that size over the season. Great report too!

Just saw this as I've been away for a few days. Great fish Roberta, certainly one to remember. Regards Bill

Thanks, guys - it was an awful lot of luck, I reckon! I happened to put the cast in the right spot & got the hit in the first 1/2hr ..... the rest of the day - a cast of hundreds - for nothing! Tho it really surprised me that there were no hits on topwater!! If you put it in the right spot (up against a snag or tree branches, in the shadows, under the branches .....) you usually get a hit!! Thank God for my Crackjack lure, doing the trick!!

And a different 'selfie' ....

To be honest, I'll be REALLY lucky to get anything NEAR that size again ..... as i said in the post - when I've fished that river before, I've only ever caught 1 fish sometimes, no fish often & only ever landed more than one fish on one occasion!! So I may be trying some new spots rather than flogging that one again, to try & get my 2nd fish for the social comp!!

I seriously wish I had a pair of scales with me tho - it was SO fat, I would have LOVED to know how much it weighed!! Starlo reckons the water temp may have contributed to it's 'sluggish' fight .... as the temp rises, so does the fight in the fish. (Tho it DID have some red/bloody bits on it ... indicating either injury or fungus attack!)

Hi Clutch - good luck in the Upper Nepean ..... I've often looked down there as I've crossed the river, on my way to Canberra thinking .... One day!! .....

Hi, Ken .... I can't see an upgrade any time soon - but have heard some EXCELLENT reports of BIG fish out of the Port Macquarie area!! :lek:

Hi Ads22 ..... hope to get up to visit Michelle & do some Barra Bashing ..... :lek:

Hi Ray - Looking forward to reading some of YOUR reports soon! Hope you are doing OK!

cheers & thanks for the comments .... TIGHT LINES!!

Roberta

Its always a good feeling to be handling nice big females (like that ) if I ever get down that way I'll make sure I take the yak.

Thanks guys - the smile is still on the dial .......

I went back today ..... we haven't had rain for SO long .... the level had dropped, there was no flow at all .... and the water was incredibly dark & full of tannin ..... I didn't think I'd have any luck - and I was right!!

A cast of thousands - for not even a nudge!!

Ah well .... that's fishing!

cheers
