WOOHOO! I Cracked a 50cm Wild River Bass on Open Day!!

#1 Post by arpie » Sat Sep 02, 2017 10:53 am

Hi guys

It's been blowing a gale here in the last week or so, making it very uncomfortable to fish in my little yak ..... I drove around Green Point, Pacific Palms & the Keys the other day in the hope of finding a spot out of the wind but it was not to be .....

So with the Bass Season 'starting up again' on Friday, Sept 1st ..... I was REALLY KEEN to get on the water & give bass a crack - I don't think I've targeted them really, since my previous PB (a 50cm impoundment bass) at Somerset Dam 2 years ago!! :lek:

I had a spot in mind - and was lucky to find it 'empty of people'! :lek:

20 minutes of topwater for NOTHING! Not one touch! I put on a medium diving Crackjack & BOOM!

Food for thought - I just saw a post on Suntag FB page of a 460mm that had recently been recaptured at Somerset. It was previously tagged in December 1992 - that's 24.7 years!! When tagged it was 360mm. That's 100mm in 9,019 days. I wonder how old your beast was, arpie!!!

That is AMAZING, Adam!! So you could add quite a few years to the 24.7, to account for the original '360mm' size .... then some more for the final '40mm' of mine!! Gosh ... it could be 40 years old?!!

cheers

I think there would be a spectrum of growth rates, depending on food supply, competition, etc. But it certainly could be ancient!

Off track, I caught a 58.5cm and 4 years later it was 58.5cm still. Thats why its hard to find those 60cm models.
