FISH ID PLEASE

George is more than likely correct, however a location would confirm. There are a few Scortum (grunters) species in the gulf that look similar. Lake Eyre catchment has Barcoo's (Scortum barcoo).

thanks guys, not something one should find in the Mary :lek: but then there are some big sooties there too

It would be a Barcco then, pretty common for dam stocking. Good eating and the best fish to eat for your health. Highest omega counts.

Definitely a jade perch I caught one of these a year ago and it took a while to figure it out mainly because I got it in Parramatta river while going for bass

A similar type called small head grunter are in the Burdekin good to eat
