baby samsonfish????

caught this today in Moreton bay, anyone know what it is?? it had really smooth skin exactly like a trevally's........

Hi Chris

It could well be a baby samsonfish - I've only ever caught the one back in 2011 and it was a total surprise to me then - a tad under 40cm (here in Wallis Lake!) Never seen them before or since!

Yours is very similar in colour but just not as big as mine so a bit tricky to be sure, to be sure! :wink:

The dorsel fins look the same along with the colours.

Thanks for the replies and confirmation guys, Over the course of the morning I had the odd one follow my 5" plastic to the surface and couldn't make out what it was then later on I hooked this one, wouldn't mind hooking one of it's older siblings tho as this one went well for its size :wink:

Only hooked one that went 53cm and it fought hard, fishing rocks on 4kg tackle. I'm going to say sambo too. Looks nice and healthy. If their following the plastic up just let it sit, they hit deadbaits pretty hard too. Also if your after a feed they taste much like flatties once you take out the dark meat and just fry them up... Also not many bones
