Bag limit? Legal size? And the important question .... Can you eat them and if so ... What do they taste like?

Thanks

I know them as putty nose perch. no size limit, might be covered by the generic "20" limit, need to read up on that. That is about the size they grow to.
My father tells me used to eat them as a kid, reckoned they were good eating - but I have also seen him eat forkies and carp, so thats not a ringing endorsement.

I thought putty nose perch had a forked tail.

I have been looking for more info but it's a bit of a circus on these species.

I did turn up this though:

As long as it's not a juvie of this:

Thanks Yalost (and everyone else who kindly has commented) .... For your time and effort ... When I look at the links, both fish look the same ... Hahahahaha ..... Yet 1 has a size limit, how are we suppose to do the right thing? Anyway, I'll keep releasing them, that way all will be ok ...

Thanks again everyone ..... What a great site...

I reckon it looks more like a Scaly Jew with the projecting snout. The River Perch states there is no projection.

No worries mate, glad I can value add to the site in some way.

For the record we used to toss them back, we were hunting bigger game.
