Cheers for all the feed back guys! I'll just call it an 'Estuary Bass'

Mate, regardless of whether it was released/stocked in the area doesn't count for one's aquarium fish being released in to the system once they're too big too..obviously I do my research before hand, but that kind of stuff does not help the correct I.D of it, hence putting it on here with the hopes of an EP fisherman being able to help..there's been many a case where fish have been caught outside their 'distribution zone'..

It may very well be an Estuary Bass, as it looks like a hybrid. The Two species are known to interbreed and I have seen a few photos over the years of hybrids, which look very similar.

Here is some info I found that lists a few quick differences between Estuary Perch and Bass

The estuary perch have a slightly larger mouth and more scooped forehead.

The perch also have a slight dip in the bridge of the forehead where the bass have a longer tapered snout & concave in shape.

Bass have white fingers on the ventral and #@! fin where a Perch tend to be dark throughout.
Estuary perch spend most of their time in the salt and brackish water, very rarely entering the fresh. Bass will spend most of their time in the freshwater and come down to the brackish to spawn.

The estuary perch has smaller scales than a Bass.

Photo from the site, have removed the persons head as it was not my photo, but I would love to have caught his fish

Yes the odd EP will venture past their natural range but the Big difference is EPs have not been stocked North of their natural range  unlike Murray cod , GP and SP which have either escaped from the dams feeding into the Nepean or were part of " Karma releases " by the Buddhists . Can you say for ceratin the cod you saw from the Nepean were not the naturally occurring ( but very rare ) Easterns ?

Directed to me ? :beye: could've been an aquarium fish I guess , one can never discount that these days ! But I have caught quite a few EPs now including a bunch yesterday , I've cross referenced a lot of my photos and that doesn't look like any of them , sorry to disappoint you
