A spur of the moment trip

With the wife going to a concert and I finishing a callout Job quicker than planned a spur of the moment trip to St Clair happened. A fly rod two reels One floating one sinking a handfull of flies floating and sinking and off I went , arriving an hour before dark a quick walk in rigged for sub surface . Casting into deep water with no weed beds evident which was unusual for this time of year not a touch till it was time to change over to surface as the shadows lengthened and it started getting dark I noticed a fish working one small bay quietly sipping small insects off the surface at regular intervals in a clockwise direction . Casting to where I thought the fish would be heading I started a very slow strip and pause pattern and as I was just about running out of line and getting ready to cast again the fish rose from the depths and sipped the fly under and took off taking a 5 metre run before I could manage to stop the line disappearing through my fingers after a few more runs with the fish taking line each time I gradually got the fish under control and to the bank for a quick photo and then released it was the only fish I saw rise till the moon came out and I never had another touch. I walked out happy with the one fish and beat the wife home from her concert.cheers Justforfun

Any Bass on fly is good but that one is a cracker, I reckon they are an even better fish on fly.

Well done Noel. I was thinking of going out yesterday but the rain put me off. Tied a few flies to use at Forster instead

Thanks Simons rat and Bwak for the last couple of years the bass fishing with a fly rod by canoe or from the bank has been my no1 preference .cheers Justforfun
