abu diplomat or gillies saltwater edition

#1 Post by Josh12345 » Wed Jul 12, 2017 8:23 pm

Hey guys looking at getting a entry level combo to give fly fishing a go.

The two choices i have at my local shops are the gillies fly combo or abu garcia diplomat.
Struggling to find reviews so any advice would be great
cheers.

Edit: the gillies is a 8wt and the abu is 6/7
my targets will be barramundi and smallish pelagics e.g golden trevs, queenfish
i have been told the 8wt would be the best all rounder and also wondering if it's hard to learn with any heavier to start.

Hey Mate speak to Gaz at A1 Fly Fishing, great prices
and an awesome product to boot, do yourself a favour and buy the reel kit with 3 spools, awesome for changing line types quickly. Alternatively the Wind Warrior rods have an awesome reputation too but definitely give Gaz a call.

but still tossing up between that or the gillies combo

could you or anyone recommend which would be better?

Sorry Josh I have no experience with the Gillies personally.
Another alternative is to put out the feelers on another aussie forum called Flylife for a decent second hand combo mate.
Ive picked up some quality gear at very reasonable prices.
Great place for info on all things fly fishing too
