Any interest in having a new comp on?

#1 Post by zim man » Sat Sep 03, 2016 1:38 pm

Hi All
It has been a while since we had comps on the site and i was wondering if there is interest in getting them started again.

I am thinking monthly comp format. I have a few ideas n my head of a comp format that i will run past admin shortly, but wanted to hear your opinions first. The last comps died out due to lack of interest and i want to try and make sure we can avoid that scenario occurring again.

So lets hear your thoughts :gu:

cheers
Rob

If you want participation it needs to be dead simple, that way those that catch the odd fish now and then will participate

The lack of interest in the comps last time kfdu had comps was because of the format , it essentially became a voting Comp where the number of votes was the deciding factor in the election of winners , rather than on the merits of the photo itself , therefore people felt that unless you could win a numbers game it was pointless entering , this was stated over and over by a number of different people but the format never changed .

It needs to be a Comp , with rules that allow for anyone who enters to have an equal and fair opportunity to win as anybody else .

Tight lines

I'm all for it. :gu:

Throw your ideas out there Rob and lets see if we can get a format that people want to be involved in.

Thanks so much for your support,

S

Further to Jamie D's comment, I like the idea of a random draw rather than a popularity contest.
My idea though would be set criteria for your photo such as in the yak and also needing the info as to gear/tackle used, technique, not necessarily location but the type of terrain/structure etc.

Absolutely, Rob!! We'll want as 'high' participation as we can get ...... that would be terrific.

As has been said - keep it simple. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ...... so if it 'comes off' - perhaps you should be the one to decide on the winning pic! Others could still put their opinion in, after the cutoff date, stating why they like that particular photo (but not an actual vote) - but you (as having the naming rights) has the final say!

You dictate the terms - whether it is yak in the picture with fish one month - or even 'non fish' like a waterside sunset on another month ...... or you pic the species from month to month ..... then people would need to actually check each month as to the format .....

It will be interesting to see what format the comp will take!!

Many thanks for the suggestion of the comp coming back again! We have lots of talented photographers on the forum .....

thanks for the replies

my idea is a Basic format is picture entry comp that must meet these requirements
1) Picture be taken from a yak during that comp period
2) involve either fishing or outdoors

the basic outline of the comp would be
1)The winner is chosen via a random draw using random number generator.
2) each member (excluding my sponsored anglers) can enter 3 times per month
3) the prize is just a $75 prize pack
4) Each submission gets 1 entry into the draw (entries are in the order of submission on the thread)
5) if the submission is of a fish caught on any product sold by Searing Tackle or Master Angler (my retail site) then that submission gets 2 entries into the comp.
6) At least 10 submissions must be made in a month to make the comp valid and to get a winner chosen, otherwise the prize is rolled into the next months comp.
7 At the end of the year, the 12 winners get put into a draw and then randomly awarded a $100 prize pack

Entry numbers are done in order of submissions, so first submission gets entry 1 and so on. That way when doing a draw, i just do a randon generator of the number and apply it to the submission to get a winner.

This is what i have so far. What do you guys think?

I really like the sound of that mate. One suggestion I would make is that the pics be from different trips- otherwise i reckon people would be just snapping 3 different shots of a waterway for 3 entries in one day. I do like that you don't necessarily have to catch anything though
PBs
I caught a cobia which could eat the rest except for the mackerel which could also probably eat a lot of the things

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE.
IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

Great idea. Random draw sound good and like that is doesn't need a fish in it as some of them are better.
