Planning a camping tour (with yak)

#1 Post by Passive » Tue Jul 22, 2014 8:17 am

Around mid october I have planned a trip touring the coast line from NSW midcoast to townsville, and inland on the wayback. If any one has any MUST see destinations between newcastle and townie, Be if for kayak fishing or just a great camping spot, Please reply or PM me as this trip will be mostly played by ear as myself and the group i go with are self sufficient campers but we havnt ventured this far north before.

Cheers Passive.

Got a 4wd? Fraser Island is must see.

Other camping destinations to consider - no particular order:

1770
Baffle Creek for jacks
Lake Awoonga for Barra
Airlie Beach for backpackers
Noosa & the Everglades/Harry's hut
Woodgate
Double Island Point
Stradbroke Island (2wd accessible unlike Fraser)

Also just hit the Qld National parks website. Look at national parks like Deepwater.

By Mid October the closer you get to Townsville the more likely you will need to factor in Stingers and Crocs into any water activities. The locals from Mackay north on this forum and AKFF might be able to tell you the no-go areas though.

Hinchinbrook Island - if you can go a little further north than Townsville.

By many accounts one of the best sea kayak trips in the world - and good fishing too. But multi-night to do it all.
