Have pondered over this question several times:

One can buy Tilapia in fish shops in NSW.
We have some Asian friends in Brisbane who have asked a couple of times if we could buy some for them
next time we come visit. Have always sort of "forgotten"

Guess I'm braking the law (Queensland law) if I take Tilapia across the border.

Tilapia is edible, carp I don't think so.

they do a Koi carp bow hunting weekend here in NZ on the waikato river. they also say that you need to bury them and not remove. they kill about 8 - 10 tonnes in the weekend comp. most if not all of that is minced up for burley for sea fishers to take away. most do by the rubbish bin load. ask mr Google for pics. it quite impressive what that amount of fish look like
