Kayak Fishing Huskisson Jervis Bay.

#1 Post by AronDuffey » Fri Jun 23, 2017 4:07 pm

Hey all,

Planning a trip to Huskisson for a week of Kayak fishing. I have fished offshore in my Ocean Kayak Prowler a few times (mostly around Batemans Bay)

So I am not a complete newbie to it however my last trip to Huskisson was very slow on the fishing front. I spent one day out on the bay launched from Currumbene creek but seemed to spend hours paddling looking for marks on the sounder and avoiding marine parks. Does anyone have any advise on launching spots? Close to fish? Target species is usually snapper on bait and plastics.

My second day I went to the Basin, This was little more successful, catching a two small flathead and one bream on hard bodies. However every boat at the ramp that day seemed to have an esky full of big lizards... I must have missed something.

I don't expect anyone to give away their secret spots... But a starting point would be much appreciated!

Launch from Murrays Boat ramp in Boodaree National park.

Leisurely paddle over to Point Perpendicular(approx 5K each way). Be causious of weather forecast as it can turn rough between Point Perp and Bowen Island.

Squid, snapper, kings etc, etc if the gods are on your side.

Just be mindful that there are still sanctuary zones out the front of Bowen Island and Point Perp.

PS. Plantation Point is another easy launch spot worth considering.

Murrays Beach or Summercloud Bay are two spots that might suit you.
