Burinjuck dam in small kayak

Postby Litchfield » Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:57 pm

Hello yakkers. I have a 2.7m winner kayak . just with a sounder set up and a crate on the back . pretty basic. I was after some advice . I'm looking at going down to good hope or somewhere similar in summer with the little bro . and I know the weather can change quick at burinjuck . would my kayak be too small or would it all depend on the weather. And if anyone has a small kayak too and has been in choppy conditions can you please tell me how it went and any tips on staying safe . tight lines

I've been on copeton in choppy conditions in a kayak about the same size
going with the wind and chop isn't to bad but its near impossible to go against
carry as little gear as possible to reduce weight, stick close to the sides incase you need a quick exit wear a good quality pfd
try and stick to the sheltered areas where there is less likely to be serious wind chop
keep in mind when your paddling you have to paddle back (I actually went into shore and dragged the yak back because I couldn't physically push any further)
and just incase wear a good quality pfd

Goodhope or Hume Park or Woolgarlo would be ok, id be hesitant in going too far if down in the main basin though.
