Sydney Carp

#1 Post by maxim » Sat Oct 07, 2017 9:47 pm

Hi,

Where can i go for some easy carp fishing not far from Sydney?

I saw some carp in Lane Cove river, but Lane Cove park is closed untill 9am which is too late for the fishing trip. I've nere fished for carp in Australia, so im not even sure what bait to use

Have only tried once to no avail but
you could give parramatta park a go.
Alternatively Lake Parramatta has them as well as bass.
As far as bait goes mate I know it sounds funny but canned sweet corn is a killer on a long shank hook, just a few pieces don't over do it.

Seen some crackers at Darling Harbour Japanese Gardens. Not sure they'd take to kindly to you trying to hook'em though.

Seriously though, you'd probably find carp in most river systems. It's quite unfortunate.

Parramatta was my thought, as well. I've seen some big carp when walking along the river foreshore, which must mean they arrived there via Parramatta Park.

I can't help much with bait advice but suspect they are far from finicky. The only place I ever bothered targeting the destructive pests was in the Murray River many years ago. Garden worms resulted in some large specimens.
Cheers,
Steve

Used to be plenty of carp in Manly Dam too, haven't fished there for years but I imagine they are still there.

Canned corn is the go to bait and burley, use a float for best result. They make great snapper and crab bait.

I remember Centennial Park on occasions had a carp fishing day, when caught they are laid on the banks, then collected by truck and taken away. The lakes get over populated and this is the control method.
