rigging up sounder to kayak

#1 Post by tomcat8819 » Sun Oct 15, 2017 8:00 am

hey guys im about to rig my sounder up to my kayak, lowrance 3x. just working out the bare minimum coz im trying to keep weight down (im a big unit in a not very big kayak) it states it needs 9v to run.. so can i just buy a 9v battery clip and hoousing unit, solder it up. get a small tupperware container with a small hole to run the cords out of and just blue tack the hole closed to make it waterproof and run my sounder from this and just keep a few 9v batteries on hand for back up?? cheers guys

Hey mate first for me hearing of a ff running off
a 9v however if that's the case then yeh mate.
There's really not much to a sounder setup, just try waterproof heatshrinking any exposed joins or wires and make sure you throw the necessary fuse in the setup as well, again in a waterproof fuse holder.

yeh thats all my buddy used to do, used to get a couple few hour trips per battery. not sure what you mean re: fuse i literally just have a sounder, transducer and the + and - wires that run out of the sounder

Usually lowrance would specify like 5amp fuse or something that you would run in the positive line to help protect the ff from and surges etc.
That and the waterproofing are the most important thing.

yeh too easy ill suss it out, dont think a 9v battery is going to produce too much of a surge though
