CHIRP Sounder Transducer

#1 Post by Dimmo » Tue Aug 23, 2016 3:52 pm

I'm now a little confused, can a sounder with CHIRP technology have the transducer mounted inside the kayak, or does it have to go in the water? :doubt:

TIA

I have an elite4 chirp and an elite 5chirp and both work fine with the transducer sikaflexed inside the hull

You may be getting mixed up with side imaging sounders.

Is there a thread in the forum for a wet mount install guide?

TIA

Everyone does it different. Common methods include:

~Sticking down a foam block with a cut out for transducer, and squirting water into cut out, each trip. Good for removalable installations. One of my kayaks uses a dense sealing rubber block rather than foam and that is wedged down rather than stuck.

~ Cutting the bottom off a sistema type click lock food container transducer bolted to underside of lid. Fill container with water and clipping lid on with transducer thus inserted in water. Depending on how good seal is this can last quite sometime without needing to top up. I have this on one kayak and I invert car top, and only needs topping up every few trips

Adhesives are either goop/sikaflex/selleys all clear, in that order of preference

Dry mounts involve sticking transducer down directly with goop, all clear or sikaflex, Taking care not to get bubbles in it, by warming adhesive first.

Goop is hard to source, Hobie dealers carry it.

Should be lots of posts on the topic if you use the search function either here of google
