Lowrance Elite 7ti. I'm pretty happy with it, but I bought it before they released the Elite 9ti otherwise I would have got the 9.

Here is a screen shot of a big school of Redfin with some larger fish lurking around I took on Saturday.

I run a HDS 7 Gen 3. Its ok.

A mate of mine just bought an Elite 9 for his kayak. It's a better unit than the HDS if you're looking at Lowrance gear.

Don't really know what to add for pros and cons. They work. The newer model sounders have better resolution than the older model sounders.
Cheers,

Get the one that has the total scan transducer. It is an all in one transducer.

With the most recent Lowrance software update, most of the units which offer side-imaging can make use of just the total scan transducer.

Those running a Garmin echoMap or Lowrance Ti, how do you have the transducer mounted? They appear quite long. Viking have been working some ideas around on the Reload tackle pod but not completely sold just yet.

Humminbird transducer on the Helix range looks to fit in the tackle pod recess.

What sold you on choice of SI sounder?

I'm running the Garmin echomap 75sv and love it
I originally bought the lowrance 7ti but took it back because the touch was going it's own thing
The new Garmin comes with the gt52 transducer which is half the size of the lowrance total scan trany
And the map contour recording on the water is nifty too
ATM I have my transducer on a side drop I tried the wet mount but unless you can mount it in the bow of the yak you loose sidescan
Cheers Pete

Echomap has maps where striker has just gps. Both excellent units.

The new gt52 transducer is long but not that long.

Using the burleypro adaptors thingies to mount.

So... I can score a Helix 9 with HD transducer for about $1400, perhaps less. This may be a little too big on the Reload, though. Anyone disagree?

Also saw the other day a Helix 5 SI with a Revo attached to it for $1500 that piqued my interest. It's like going to a restaurant with too many things on the menu!  The helix 5 would be fine, but would prefer a 7 for size of image I think. But I like the idea of the Revo coming with it!

I disagree. I really really regret not getting a 9 over a 7 for my sounder choice. After seeing my mate with an Elite 9 on his kayak, a 9 is definitely not too big for a kayak

I still remember fishing an ABT kayak event at Scarborough years ago and seeing one of the Seeto brothers using a HDS 12 on their Kayak. My only comment was whether he could tune it to get the cricket.
Cheers,
Bretto
