#1 Post by Wecs » Wed Aug 01, 2018 8:59 pm

I’m new to this I’m pretty keen and have a budget of $1000 I don’t have any gear, if you could point me in the right direction it would be great

Am I right in thinking all I need is a
Speargun
Wetsuit I’m thinking 3mm and I’m based in nsw
Knife
Fins
Mask
Snorkel
Floatline
Float
Weight belt
Weights
Torch

Anything else I need?

you're unlikely to need a torch so save some dollars
3mm wetsuit is fine for most NSW waters
use it to get a better quality gun...... don't go to big on the gun for your first (you'll just end up driving the shaft into a rock and bending it)
spend a bit extra and get a good quality silicone mask and snorkel it makes a massive difference to comfort when you're in the water for a couple of hours

Any suggestions on gun choice? There are heaps of option rob Allen sparid, Scorpio tuna and then there are a heap of different brands I really have no idea. Should I get a roller gun?

What brands or gear do you suggest

I haven't spearfished in years
I had a Picasso a good gun for the price and shoots nice and fast
stick with a simple gun to start with, get your confidence especially handling fish etc.... big fish can get dangerous if don't hit them right and they go for a run easy to get tangled in the line

I not sure they do guns however Wilderness Sea and Ski at Liverpool have diving gear you just need to head upstairs, also Woodville Rd at Guildford, used to be a tackle store now a Spearfishing place.

Thanks for that I have found a few speargun just need opinions so I’m liking either rob Allen or beuchat

Rob Allen
Sparid, Scorpia and tuna

Beuchat Marlin Oceania

Just can’t seem to find any info on what the better gun is
