PVC Rod Holder

#1 Post by Ads22 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 8:53 pm

I'm sure there are plenty of attempts at these, but here is one I whacked together recently. I haven't had a chance to test it, may sneak a paddle in tomorrow if lucky just for a quick test.

Made up for the Viking GT. Note, the rear rod holders point almost straight back, so the holder slots in quite easily. I have set the pole quite high to allow for longer/stronger rods to sit in better, but may set up a second set of legs to seat lower for lighter fishing if I feel it's warranted. I set the legs at a bend to provide a little more back space and allow room for the water filled camel back. I find the position of my railblaza port directly behind my back affects my seated position while I have the light attached - this will likely be shifted.

Anyway - standard 40mm PVC pipe used with a couple of cross fittings, T-piece and couplings all joined by short sections of 40mm pipe, to space each rod holder. Upper portions are all glued and legs just positioned in place to allow for rotation and positioning if required. May glue if feel is necessary. Holder ends slotted, heated and flared around a Bailey's bottle.

Painted blue (to fit yak colour a little better) with a plastic suitable spray paint (two coats) and big-green-shed-sourced reflective tape to add a little safety. Crosses sourced from the e of the bay, tried to source locally but none to be found.

I always find I'm half way through a project before I think about a video and then I can't be bothered. In this case, I was well aware of a few vids or series of pics on the net that I based my idea on already, so thought it was pointless really when they had been done well already.
