DIY Kayak Loader with video

#1 Post by Ads22 » Sun Jul 15, 2018 11:53 pm

I saw a request for ideas to load a heavy kayak onto a roof on a FB forum, so whacked this video together from my trip out today. Then I noticed a request on here for ideas on kayak loaders. It's a basic DIY requiring 2 tek screws and a bolt with wing nut, 2 square steel tubes (20mm and 25mm), an angle bracket and some PVC pipe.

Hope it helps someone.

Cheers,

Adam

Hey Adam...

Thanks for the video, easy to follow and seems to do what i was asking about in my post..

Just a quick question, what brand cradles are you using that have the gap for the tube to slide into, was looking at getting the Nautic 570's.

Cheers..

The video should be there, shows on mine. Doesn't show on my Samsung S8 if viewed in the native Internet browser, however, shows fine in Chrome. Perhaps check what you are viewing the page on?

No worries Thomas. They are the Rhino Nautic 570's as you are looking at. I loosened one side to make sure it fit snuggly, while the other side is a tad tighter. An alternative may be (dependent on bars and internal size), removing the end cap when required, and using a tube to fit up the centre of the roof bar and using that as your side loader. Would have to assess the diameter required. The guy I posted the vid for on FB made one up for about $5. I can't see how he has worked his, as the pic is a bit blurry, but uses some PVC tubing with a 90° bend on the end to stop sliding off end, and hopefully a steel tube up the centre of the PVC for strength.

They should fit alongside the rack much like yours does, yours kind of look like Rhino Euro 2500's ?
Have measured the rack on mine and comes in a tad under 25mm so the 20mm tube should fit in nicely alongside it under the cradle mount.

I'd try viewing on something else, or download Chrome or another browser and try viewing on that. Alternately, go to: http://youtu.be/ThxZOWAxmHc
