Great footage there mate. I want to try my luck at Hinze with surface flies. Haven't ever caught a Saratoga only bass. Have you or anyone got any tips for finding them in Hinze?

Can get them anytime of day or night, but I have found them to be the opposite to bass, where as the bass are usually more active first light and later arvo, the toga are out and about moreso during the day when it's full sun...
shallower sheltered bays and inlets are where they like to hang out.
In the video where I was pointing at them, there was two of them swimming side by side, which is not uncommon and something I've seen quite afew times up there, hard to see in vid but I'm getting a polarizer lens for the GoPro which should fix that.
I find it easier in the punt than the yak because I can stand on the seat and get a much better view around me when hunting around for them. Nothing beats sight casting to them.
They are an awesome fish.

Thanks for the info!
The way you describe looking for them reminds me of searching for cruising trout in shallow lakes. Use to do a lot of that when I lived down south. Your right nothing beats sight fishing!
Do you mainly use surface lures for them? As far as weather gos I assume they love it when it's hot and light winds?

pretty much only use surface lures for them, only resort to vibes or spinnerbaits as a last ditch effort if they're just not willing to play, hotter the better and yeah, calm shallow bays and inlets, cast past them and retrieve back towards them, they seem to spook if it lands right on em....

Was up at Hinze the other day trying for some bass on surface early in the morning (nothing was inducing a strike) but when paddling across to another bay right out in the open water in the middle of the lake something rather large rises near me. I didn't get a proper look at it. Would this have been a Saratoga?
