2017 - North Queensland Kayak Fishing

#1 Post by NorthSIKer » Fri Dec 08, 2017 7:10 pm

Well a good year is was. Maybe the new boat has mojo!

Unfortunately my camera broke about half way through the year so missed a couple of months of action. Fishing wise:
- Lots and lots and lots of sharks. Some days I caught nothing else. Got them on plastics, got them on hardbodies, got them on metal jigs and even got one on fly. I didn't include much footage of these.
- Not many trevally compared to normal (probably less than a dozen) but a few queenfish.
- No grunter all year!
- Mackerel season was short - and no spaniards for me.

As always I have included plenty of the tiddlers that I catch to most accurately reflect the mix I get into out there. Also, no footage from the Townsville to Mission Beach paddle in this - this is all in the other video http://www.kfdu.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=50770

The compilation ends with the next generation of my kayak fishing

Hey NorthSiker

If you plan another TSV to Mission Beach expedition, please let me know, it's something myself and Brian would love to do with an experienced individual.

If nothing else, some guidance ont he do's, dont's, and preparation requirements.

I'll be checking out the vid this evening when I am not working

Cheers
Mike.

Will do.

My big holidays for 2018 are pretty well locked in (no big kayak trips - but a week in the Western Arthurs in Tassie is planned :)) but if I get to a weekender I'll let you know. Actually, maybe we should try to lock up a weekend just after the cyclone season (it always takes lots of pre-planning to coordinate dates I find).

Next big kayak trip I am actually toying with a circuit through the Whitsundays - but be 2019 if you guys can wait that long.

Sounds fantastic! Always keen for a good weekend trip as there's a lot I need to learn about longer trips. Whitsundays on a TI would be EPIC ... to say the least!!! I'll still be here in 2019.

Yup, that's pretty cool getting the gaff into the tuna!

Had a moment like that last year with a 33 pound yellowtail (which I think you call yellow kingfish), and couldn't help howling with joy when the fish was safe on deck/in cockpit. :)
