Camps or must fish spots for someone far from home

Postby waterbaby1972 » Sat Mar 18, 2017 7:21 pm

Hi,
its been a while since I've logged on and wanted to see if there were any camps you might be having late May. Have a conference in Brisbane but I've decided to drive up from the NSW far south coast and do a bit of exploring as being originally from Perth I haven't driven or explored the stretch from Port Stephens northwards.

If there's no trips planned I wondered if you might have suggestions of 'must do's' while I'm up your way. Toying with idea of going to North Stradbroke for a day or two just to see it while I'm there and maybe take in a bit of yak whale watching - though may be a tad early for big numbers of them I'm guessing - though last year they were spotting them at Hervey Bay by late April so fingers crossed.

Toying also with Forster-Tuncurry, Bellingen or Ballina but realise that's not really nearby.

Would appreciate any thoughts on your special places. Probably going to do a bit of camping so out of the way places I'm set up for too.

Cheers in advance,
Jody

I've heard Wollongong has some great places to fish and friendly people to stay with.

Let us know if you manage to stop in Forster/Tuncurry, Jody. All going well, mainly with the weather, we should be able to have some fun! :gu:

Cheers

Seal Rocks and South West Rocks are nice places to camp and fish.
Seal Rocks is a artificial lure only zone to protect the Grey Nurse Sharks and is good for snapper and kings.

Thanks avayak. Must remember to check in with different places regarding rules! Wouldn't have thought of that.

Thanks Roberta. Can't wait to explore all along the coast

Straddie is awesome and it's much nicer around that time than summer without the big crowds. Should be in with a chance of seeing a few whales in april too for sure.
PBs
I caught a cobia which could eat the rest except for the mackerel which could also probably eat a lot of the things
