Trailer Parking

#1 Post by 2yackers » Sun Feb 07, 2016 1:06 pm

Went down to Grays Point last Wedesday morning.
Took my recently converted box trailer, with all the fittings to Cary my Hobie Adventure.
All the signage states that only boat trailers can park in the marked bays.
Didn't want to risk getting booked so I had to park up the hill on the entrance road.
Has anybody been booked there using a converted box trailer?
There were only about 6 trailers there.
It is a pain in the arse, I don't think I will be going back there in the future.
I feel better now that I have had a winge, I think I might have a beer and go back to watching the Bathurst 12 hour race.
Regards
Bob

Surely common sense would dictate that a box trailer that's set up to transport a kayak or water craft should be considered in the same category as a boat trailer. Oh but it's council so common sense does not apply.

Maybe contact the local council & get their take on it.

Bumped into a parking officer in Sutherland today and asked this question. To my surprise he called his office and double checked his thoughts on the situation. The answer he gave/was given was as follows:

1. The signage they use should state "cars and trailers only" - it doesn't specifer boat trailer.

2. Further if the box trailer shows some sign of it being a marine use trailer eg winch, some type of skids, etc etc then this will also stop any fine being issued.

In short you should be fine is what tgey stated.

Hope that helps
George

Thanks George
The signs actually specify boat trailers and box trailers have the red circle with the line through it.
I really don't trust those people as I got hit at Tench Reserve, Penrith a couple of years back with a similar situation.

bob pretty sure its different with each council.my understanding is if it says boat trailer i wouldnt risk parking a box trailer.
think i remember a member being fined at little manly for the same infringement.
i dont see the difference but if anyone is building a box trailer into a kayak trailer might be worth registering the trailer as a boat trailer to avoid the dramas.
cheers
Westie

What a good idea Westie.
Wouldn't that play with their minds when you lay the facts on them.

Maybe they think boat trailer rego fee goes towards funding ramp facilities, hence gets right of way?

Obviously a boat trailer is parked there for use of ramp, not simply because its a handy trailer parking spot while someone is not using ramp. If this is the reason I guess a converted for use trailer should be ok.

I rang Roads & Maritime tech guys and was advised to take trailer to pink slip certifier to see if enough modifications have been undertaken to change the rego from box to boat trailer.
The only problem could be the weight distribution with overhang even though I have extended the draw bar by 1.5 metres.
Watch this space!
