Folk at wave hill say its an hour drive from main house to gorge view lodge & all of 8 ks.Got myself some spinnerbaits, rubbers & hardbodies so should have all bases covered.I dont have a sounder in this yak yet which would be handy.(maybe Santa's listening )

Just returned from our Clarence Gorge trip ,Kayak wasn't a lot of use as the water was quite low upstream & had to get out & drag through one set of rapids .If you go a few ks this way you come to junction of Mann & Clarence Rivers.I got one small Bass trolling a hard body but without a sounder Im guessing water wouldn't have been much deeper than a mtr in most spots.Next morn. we went in th 4 x 4 a couple of ks & walked in to the Gorge (not an area youd want to break a limb or get bitten by a snake as your a long way from help with no communication) first cast ,fish ,second cast fish & on it went .I would get a couple or three fish from every hole but then they spook so just keep moving down th Gorge remembering that you have to walk back & its pretty hard going but well worth it.Our cabin was great & there are a couple of eco tents on top of the range above the walk down to the gorge, easy to see why it takes nearly an hour to drive the last 8 ks in from the Homestead & would be easy to tear a tyre + if it rains you don't get in or out till it dries out sufficiently. We will certainly be going back & with yak as it was an easy launch & retrieve to go upstream & bit more water would have been better Im sure.Biggest fish was 50cm. with a lot in th 40s

Easier access to th gorge is at Winters property "The Gorge" which is on the other side of the river & a lot of sites are available there & much more kayak friendly waterway.

I'm planning on camping at the Winter's gorge site over the Anzac Day long weekend, what's the bass/cod fishing like around that time of year?

Cheers

Depends lot on water levels mate but up in the gorge you will find back eddies ect. Perfect ambush spots for Bass. The station we stayed on is just above the gorge ,you will be below it & I havnt been that side as yet. When we were there the Bass were all hangn below waterfalls waitn for the river to rise so could get upstream, how much rain upstream theve had I dont know but great place, fish are a bonus.
