Re: whats a nice beach in seq to practice kayak surfing

If you get the chance to pop over to Straddie, Adder Rock and Home Beach (the next one east after Adder) have pretty much ideal waves for learning to surf on. In a 1.2-1.5m easterly swell the waves wrap really nicely around the headland and make for some beautiful smooth rides without directly pumpi...

heres a side by side comparison for you unsinkable2 and any one else having trouble accepting the facts. giant-queenfish.jpg20190125_094003.jpg if you honestly still think there the same fish you must also think all whiteing are the same all mackerel are the same etc if your going to push your poin...

Re: lota flats 48cm needle skin queen fish 6lb/sugerpen

That's not a pure white 'rear' fin- I fear you may have based your decision a bit too heavily on that one dot point. Take a look at that lateral line- only two of the blotches intersect as one would expect from a giant queeny. All of the other attributes in DAF's giant queenfish description match th...

Re: lota flats 48cm needle skin queen fish 6lb/sugerpen

Awesome work. I'm definitely not sure on your ID though- that head profile is wrong for a needleskin and to me it definitely looks like a Giant Queenfish. The other smaller species of queenies tend to have a far more even jawline and a far less steep forehead, but feel free to send it in to an exper...

Re: kayak fishing magazine?

Blade mag tried to merge with outer edge magazine (essentially have a blade kayaking section in the outer edge mag like yakfisher is a section in the AFN mag). It did not end well. Ended up being less of a merge and more of a takeover and now no original blade people are involved whatsoever. Now if ...

Re: any tips for moffat beach/brays rock

Livies near the shark nets straight out from the beach. Don't use a chute- if the tuna pop up you'll want to paddle straight to them and it's another thing to get tangled if you do hook up. I usually just hang around straight out from the headland and wait for the fish to pop up- sometimes you'll ha...

Re: May Mackerel Sessions

good stuff mate! It's been a bit of a funny season up here too- the fish have generally been there but they only seem to have been biting really early on in the morning just before or around sunrise. have had a couple of sessions where I could see a few fish cruising under the yak completely uninter...
