Re: Silicone Spray

Lanolin type sprays on fishing gear and electrical contact spray on sounder plugs and sockets including other electrical connections. Watch that silicone spray. Over-spray can spread to to other things that you may not want to become slippery. I found it pretty difficult to fully remove unwanted sil...

Re: 1st attempt and ocean kayak sailing....challenging !

Wow Mick, What an amazing and somewhat scarry story. I hope to learn from your experience. So glad you survived it and the wind was the only thing that was dumped on the day. A following sea is a test for any water craft but especially for a sail assisted kayak. It makes me realise there may be an w...

Re: 1st attempt and ocean kayak sailing....challenging !

Looking good PB. I understand you probably stopped paddling to start filming, but I find it much easier to both paddle and sail rather than just sail. You'll have much longer legs on the ocean now. Hi GBC, You're absolutely on the money about the paddle playing an important part to make sailing eas...

Re: Anchor rope/cord & storage

I use a reel that BCF gave me for FREE. It was a used rope/chord reel. I bought 50 metres of cheap 8mm poly silver rope (around $10). The chord in this pic below has been replaced by the silver rope. Thicker rope/chord is much easier to handle and 50 metres safely serves my needs. When I put out my ...

Re: Replacement battery for PLB

This post reminds me that it's time to run the 'test' feature on my Accustat PLB again.
I'm glad it comes with a 6 year GME warranty.

Hope you can get yours up and running quickly again Mal.

1st attempt and ocean kayak sailing....challenging !

Hi all, Here's a 2 minute clip of my first ocean kayak sailing attempt in increasing choppy waters. At times I reached speeds that I would never even hope to achieve whilst under paddle power alone. I found myslef surfing over and passing choppy swells as they rolled to shore. What a buzz... River s...

Re: Repairing hole in Scooper hole

Any ideas where these can be purchased at a bargain price would be appreciated. Regards Dom Hi Dom, I bought mine at my local BCF and got them to match an Australian online price (including freight). I saved about $10 at the time. Not much in the scheme of things but it's better in my pocket than t...

Re: Repairing hole in Scooper hole

Good point re using an alternative trolley Paul. I must admit even after loading it on the wheels in the water I often still manage to miss the holes and might take a few attempts before I'll finally get them in. Does the Railblaza Ctug come with the strap and is it difficult to secure in the water...

Hi XD

Just thought of a possible name that has 'fashionably incorrect' spelling and is relevant to an emotion associated with the colour green.

Re: Repairing hole in Scooper hole

Hi Dom, If scupper holes wear and tear is an issue with these trolley designs, then perhaps using an alternative style of trolley would be good advice...one that doesn't need to use the scupper holes. It appears that kayak manufacturers don't take into account that these holes may be used for this r...

Re: Kaskazi fishing ski with added sail

Looks good. Any particular reason you went with turnbuckles over sliding hitches? Hi GBC, for some reason the sliding hitches kept sliding and loosened up the mast every time I put pressure on it. That's why I resorted to the turnbuckles. They're very small, they're quality stainless and easily adj...

Re: First Kayak - Glide Reflection

Excellent fit out on the rod holders Birdie. Some people are too afraid to cut holes in their kayaks regardless of the type material they're made from. Did you use some silicone around those holes including the screw holes ? I'm guessing the rod holder screws are self tappers because it doesn't appe...
