Coffs coast snapper sesh

#1 Post by Marty75 » Thu Nov 22, 2018 1:18 pm

A bit of a belated report from the weekend just gone. Decided to chase some inshore snapper with my brother on the Coffs Coast. Alarm went off at 3am and made the drive up from Port Macquarie.

On the water by 05:30. Trolled a hard body and cast a 7" soft plastic for a couple of hours for no hits. My brother then landed a nice 78cm model on plastic.

I switched to a small octa jig on my trolling rod while persevering with casting my SP on the other. The octa jig got hit while dangling in about 10m of water. I didn't want to get reefed so got stuck into that fish while leaving my other line in the water. Kayak got swung around by the fish as I fought it. Finally got the snapper on board but not before the other line goes off with the SP I didn't have time to reel in. Problem was that in the process of my Stealth getting swung around by the 1st fish the line on my SP rod got wrapped around the tip of the rod. The top 2 guides along with about 10cm of the rod cracked off under the pressure (damn) but managed to get the 2nd fish on board too. That one measured 68cm. Got off the water around 9:30.

I found out I can get the top section of my Nitro Viper rod replaced for $99 so I'm happy about that. Had some smoked snapper wings that night (followed Paddle Guy's YouTube video for that) and tasted great. Vacuum sealed the rest for the family.

Love snapper fishing while the pelagics aren't around!

Nice catch Marty, I have 4 Nitro rods and love them. Godzilla, Viper, Voodoo, and Ultra Lite Spin.
Having the Nitro guys allow you to get new replacements for damaged bits for $99 was one of the best selling factors for my Nitro purchases.
Good post.
Cheers, BobbyB.

Not the Viper! Took the tip of mine recently ...nearly cried...
And then shortly afterwards early one morning thought i had lost it overboard for about 2 mins and lost my shit big time .then realised i had not recognised it with a new reel on it...🤪.
Bought a second hand Nitro Kamikaze 15 kg spin last week for an upcoming adventure.
Couple of nice snapper there .
Thanks for sharing.

good fun, 10 mts of water u don't have much time to keep from being reefed, particularly when the ghost rig out the back goes off without notice - hang on I say
Win Win, catch a fish, happy days, the chance of catching a bloody big fish, even happier days
