Coff's Longtail Session!

#1 Post by murd » Fri Mar 29, 2019 2:56 pm

Never caught a Longtail until today - and I got 3 of them trolling a silver/red hardbody! Could have caught more but they tend to fill up the hatch and make the ski somewhat slower to paddle. A squadron of fighter jets flew directly low overhead while fighting the last of the fish and I hope they had a split second glimpse of the action. Bloody loud by the way - they have the whole Pacific ocean to fly over and they choose to buzz me! Got dunked on the biggish swell hitting the sandbar coming in but I was hot anyway and needed a swim.

Very nice murd! Some good feeds coming in your house! Pity they weren't around when I came through earlier in the year!

Hope the jets had a good look, too! I did that in a paddock a while back. Was examining a bull with a sore leg in a paddock, he wouldn't move to the yards so I lifted his leg like I would a horse - don't usually get to do this with bulls. Three of four defence choppers flew overhead quite low, I had to wonder what they were thinking as I examined this bull's leg - no halter or ropes required. Those split second moments that keep you wondering.

Also fun to have an audience while fighting fish I reckon!

I caught a cobia which could eat the rest except for the mackerel which could also probably eat a lot of the things

Nicely done. They fight well don't they!

How do you rate their eating qualities?

Am yet to tangle with one this season.

I shared them with the street here. Nothing but positive feedback how nice they were on the plate. One guy smoked a fillet and it came out very nice. I pressure cooked one of them and scored a large helping of 'canned tuna' to dine on _ the tuna fish cakes last nite were spot on. Tonite we have tuna burgers  So, awesome fun to catch, great to eat and the 'street' now want's more!

Nice catch Rick. That wave deflector on the front of your kayak looks viking like. I made Thai fish cakes with the last long tail i caught. They were ok with sweet chilli sauce. My cousin swears by marinating long tail steaks in a mixture of mayo sauce, honey and soy sauce and then barbecue .might see you out there one day

Congrats on your first NBT Rick.
Plenty of great food there.
A few are being reported in Sydney Harbour.
Cheers
