Topwater Whiting fun

#1 Post by Freewily » Tue Jan 14, 2020 1:39 pm

Gee it's been nearly a full year since my last report. Was too busy with my surfing challenges before I get too old. Already feeling the aches & pains as I near my 60 year old birthday. Hoping to continue with my fishing passion after I give my surfing away.
Anyway. Had some annual leave & finally the weather & tides aligned for a session.
Left the ramp in seriously smoky air from the bushfires.

Had to travel a good kilometer before getting a hit on the popper. A few more casts & finally hooked a small whiting which was released.

The going was patchy but got results catching 7 whiting overall from just over legal to an elbow slapper 38cm. :lek:
The others were just undersized bream & tailor.

Lost another 3 whopper whiting & a monster tailor that smashed the popper 3 times & lept completely out of the water. :lek:

Was good to get out for another session.

Great to see another report finally. Good work on the whiting. I have seen some real monsters on the south side, just outside (and in) the netted pool.

Nice session Willy. I'm getting into popping for whiting as well. Just bought some Bassday Sugapens HF119s and a new rod. Cant wait to test them out down the coast next month.

Cheers BobbyB.
