Hairtail on Lure

A first for me, Hairtail on lure. They ruined a couple of my soft plastic's...

got one (in the mouth may i add) on a 3" hardbody on the troll through the Mooloolaba Canals (about 500m from the ocean) a year and a bit back.
How car do they head inland? that looks almost brackish?? i thought they were more of a marina/ inshore fish?

49cm Mary Cod. careful catches if hooked, release, protect. Save the Mary!
Bass - 45cm
Trev - 39cm
Bream - 38cm
Flathead - 48cm
