I'm writing this one down on the calendar..
I'll even make sure I don't get caught out like my last trip to Dora Creek.

Never fished for EP's before is there anything in particular I may need to get in regards to lure types/sizes?

Cheers..

Mate, I've never actively targeted them before, but have caught a few.
If you think of them the same as bass or bream you should be okay.
They like to hang around snags, but in saying that, I've caught one on the flats early one morning at Belmont South on surface...

I'm no expert, others may be able to offer more suggestions. Plenty of bream and whiting in Dora if we can't find the EP's

Cheers,
PF

Good to get the first Social Outing in the bank, and great to see a couple of new faces.
Big thanks to Thomas and Reg for making the effort to get out and get amongst it...

I arrived about 4:40am, and wasn't long before Crok pulled in.. after setting up we made a bee line west in the dark.
A bit of a natter on the way, before the light started to kick in, and we parted ways to flick some lures.

I fishing surface nearly all morning, and it just wasn't happening for me. I hooked up to numerous trees, logs, jetties etc, and in between had a lot of half hearted hits.
The scenery was supurb though!

Dora1.jpg

Was rounding the last turn before the Freeway, flicking the edges, when suddenly a voice from directly behind me asked how I was fairing.
Crok had snuck up and I pretty much layed an egg through a scupper hole.

Shortly after, I finally managed to sink an assist hook into a tiny Tailor.

From there, Crok and I fished opposite banks up under the freeway and a little way up Jigadee Creek (had no idea where we were at the time).
I thought I could hear banjos, so decided to head back.

Again, lots of half hearted hits from small fish with no hook ups, however did manage a few more trees.

Thank god for my DIY retreiver! Well and truely paid for itself this morning!

Cheers,
PF

As usual, I was the last to arrive, met Tom for the 1st time, welcome mate.
Got on the water about 6.30 & headed upstream along the Northern bank. Had a couple of hits but no hookups.
The southerly had arrived by the time I was about a kl upstream but we were a little protected due to the large trees along the banks. Traveled about a further Kl & the breeze was becoming a little stronger so I swapped banks & started to fish the Southern shoreline.
I managed to land a small Flathead, this was the only fish for me for the day.
I then met up with Crok who said he had about as much luck as me, then Paul appeared heading downstream. I tagged along with him trolling as he threw into the snags along the edge.
Even though the morning was not very productive it was great to be on the water for the 1st time in 2019 & meet a couple of new members.

Was nice to finally get to one of the Social days, i think this was the first one since joining. I am a bit socially akward though so takes a bit to start to talk to new people lol.

I got there pretty much around the same time as newknees ( I think it's Peter, terrible with names) and launched within a couple of minutes of each other. I decided I'd flick about under the bridge for a while before following Peter up the right hand side heading inland.
Was about 100m or so behind him when it finally happened, my fifth outing in the kayak since buying it and I finally caught a damn fish. Soon realized I need a bigger net though, I kind of freaked out a bit when I couldn't get it into the net. Decided the lift and pray method was in order.
Lucky I did pray too as soon as i got him over the side of the yak he did a head shake and cut the leader before plonking onto the floor. Thrashing about and me trying not to get spiked.
Dora1.2.jpg
Took a quick picture and tried to pull what i thought was a stick stuck in his back out, but it wasn't budging lol.
Then it took me a good 2 minutes trying to get the lip grips on him to throw it back. Had a issue getting them to release when i had him back in the water though and almost lost those too. Was only about a minute later i knocked my sunnies off my head and into the drink lol.
Then lost that lure about 5m up a tree, good casting for sure.

Change of plastic got me a second smaller flatty too
Dora2.3.jpg
All in all i had a good time, met a few of the guys but my afore mentioned socially akward self called it a day.
Thanks for the fun..

Cheers,
Thomas

Hey Guys

What a great start to the day, dead calm warm conditions, arrived about the same time as the others and got myself set with a few casts around the bridge before heading upstream
I have never fished anything on or around the lake Macquarie area so was excited to see some very fishy looking overhangs and snags in the creek... made my way up to the power lines before the wind came up and made life a bit hard when it comes to holding position and casting into some of the nooks and crannys up that way..

Decided to let the wind and current take me back down the eastern side, I could see the other guys also heading back down so had a few casts on my way.
Same story for the day though didn't score a scale, had a late hit back near the little creek but didn't result in a win, still got in plenty of casting practice.. not easy from a Yak.. I still need plenty more going by the number of visits I made into the trees (may need to get a look at Paul's tree lure retriever).

Good to meet a few new people and put some faces to names I am looking forward to getting to know you all better as the next couple of social events roll around.

Anyway as per my pics, fish or no fish how can you not feel like its was still a good way to start a Sunday when you have conditions like this..
