First fish!
Such a relief to have finally broken through the frustration of coming up with zeros for so long!!
So I ended up with a 35cm flatty which gave a nice little fight before being brought on board & then released. I was so excited I didn’t get a pic of it on board (dammit!)
Pretty happy though & bigger/better things to come!

Re: First fish!
Well done mate, hopefully the first of many. My first of the yak was a flat tie too, I had been casting a metal slug around for ages with no takes I had given up and was having a dig through a lure box to see if I had anything else to tie on and a flattie took it while it was dragging along the bottom. Figured it out pretty quickly after that

Re: First fish!
Haha, this was a little similar, I was just swearing to never fish in this creek again as it "had no fish in it" & had a "last go" before heading back to the car & then bang!! Needless to say I stayed out for another hour (with no luck) but did actually get a few hits, so that was a good sign!FishnDive wrote:Well done mate, hopefully the first of many. Congratulations Mjaydee. It can take a while to get used to soft plastic fishing. Keep at it, you'll get better and better! I chop and change a lot between hard and soft plastics these days depending how I feel.

Re: First fish!
Thanks mate, I've collected some small HB's that I'm yet to have any success on but keen to land my first one. Got a good range of SP's that I've been switching between, keen for some more time on the water.Ads22 wrote:Congratulations Mjaydee. It can take a while to get used to soft plastic fishing. Re: First fish!
Great to learn of your success. It takes a while to work out your strategies and different techniques for flatties/bream etc. I've finally got a sounder as well which helps work out where the drops offs and holes are so that I can target them. Try also sidling up to a jetty or a boat that has been moored for a while and pop a crab-like soft plastic or some other light shiny lure - bream hang around these structures and its fun when they suddenly are tempted and try to take off with your lure. I've caught some good ones this way. But mind you, I've also got snagged a few times as well.
